New Zealand Birds
This audio report describes the characteristics of some endemic New Zealand birds. Try and get familiar with the sounds each bird make. |
I have only just put it up today (Tuesday) so I haven't yet seen any birds.
This is one our class has just purchased but I think you could get creative and make your own. There are lots of ways you could do this.
We will need to do a bit of research first so we know what we can use to attract birds to our garden and what is safe for them to eat. Below is a text that might help with this.
Before you make your own bird feeder draw a design. Label the parts and material you will use. Upload your plan to seesaw so I can see it. Below are a few examples of how you might draw your plan of the design.
Once you have made your bird feeder please upload a photo to seesaw, then I can also share these with the rest of the class. Get creative and have fun! Below are just a few ideas to get those creative ideas flowing.
Please make sure you first check with your family what you are able to use.
Once you have it set up please keep an eye out to see what birds you might attract.
Maths- Drawing and labelling your bird feeder
Use your maths book and ruler if can when drawing the views of your finished product. One good way to do this is to take a photo of each view: front, top and side. See below.
Competition time..
We will have:
- The most unique design
- The one the has been most resourceful with things they have found at home
- The one the attracts the most birds- I will need photo evidence
We might have a few other ideas to add to this list once we get started. I have invited some others to get involved. My mum and Dad in Napier are going to have ago. You might like to ask your grandparents or a family member.
Maths Warm ups

1: Terry Locke has created a great poetry resource to invite the children contribute to a special local poetry competition. We did start this in class with Mrs Short last week so students can continue with this:
The I AM FROM PROJECT
Our central goals:
- To help people of all ages and backgrounds use the “Where I’m From” poem as a prompt to write about experiences that shape them.
- To bring these voices together in community.
- To get them heard locally.
- To create a national river of voices, reminding New Zealand that diversity is our origin and our strength.
